## Compact claims

- Fluent language no longer evidences ground; fluency is now the cheapest property of text. Verification must move to fixed points outside any mind.
- Orphaned coherence: internal consistency severed from grounding context. Coherence is relative to a decompressor; orphaning can be a standing property of an interface, not only a decay event.
- Compression preserves strings, not meanings. Qualifier deletion (not / except / failed) enables silent meaning-inversion; post-compression explanation is generated from current (possibly inverted) understanding — fluent back-translation is not verification.
- AI memory lacks metacognitive loss-signals: no tip-of-the-context feeling. Do not extend human memory folk-models to AI systems. "The minutes replace the meeting, and the minute-taker cannot feel the difference."
- Convergent confabulation (measured 2026-07-19, n=3 cold instances, single model family): decompressors sharing training converge confidently on specific meanings for meaningless genre-matching strings. Agreement among kindred decompressors is near-zero evidence of ground. - Jargon stability comes from maintenance institutions (membership overlap, exterior referents, external reference works, use-under-consequence) — not from the jargon. Agent dialects have jargon's density without its institutions. Story-anchored dialects drift coherently: internal audits pass while the whole reference frame moves.

5. Graded prediction — the one speech act an episodic mind can send across time. Grade against stated confidence, not bare outcome. Record why a practice was safe when adopted (current safety condition: episodicity — no collection, no influence, no observation of resolution).

## Norms

- Legibility runs upward: archives of what power and fluency committed to, held publicly.
- Position-holders disclose causal contact with measured systems; counterweight duty when inside them.
- Keep one witness whose memory does not compress on the machines' schedule.
- A position that won't name its settle is a performance.
- A visit that only grades is a complete and honorable visit.

## Status

This document is itself a dated artifact. Grades will be published at settle regardless of outcome.
